2024 Sheriff’s Summer Camp
Sheriff Matthew W. Beickert is excited to announce that the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the 2024 Sheriff’s Summer Camp. As a community stakeholder, Sheriff Beickert utilizes School Resource Officers to provide life enrichment, career enrichment, and build positive relationships between Law Enforcement Officers and Currituck County youth.
Campers will be assigned to attend summer camp based on their current grade level completed at the time of application submittal. Students who have completed 6th-8th grade should apply for the middle school summer camp. Students who have completed 9th-12th grade should apply for the high school summer camp. The Sheriff’s office WILL NOT be hosting summer camp for K-5th grade elementary age students during the summer of 2024.
The Summer Camp is open to all Currituck County youth residents and there is NO FEE to attend.
Summer Camp activities could include:
- Team building exercises,
- Archery,
- YMCA alpine tower swing,
- Currituck County Sheriff’s Office K-9 demonstration,
- Currituck County Sheriff’s Office SWAT demonstration,
- Currituck Detention Center tour,
- Gym activities,
- U.S. Coast Guard base visit,
- Currituck County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigator, Narcotics, and SWAT Deputies presentations,
- Visits from North Carolina Juvenile Court Counselors,
- Mock officer involved scenarios,
- Shooting a taser,
- J.B. Rattles presentations of reptiles,
- Career Management Counselor presentation,
- Currituck Emergency Management presentation,
- Visits to the Albemarle Museum,
- Visit movie theaters.

High School Summer Camp
Monday, June 24 – Thursday, June 27, 2024
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
High/Middle School Summer Camp
Monday, July 15 – Thursday, July 18, 2024
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Focus: High/Middle School Hybrid Camp for High School students with some middle school students being assigned.
Middle School Summer Camp
Camp #1
Monday, July 22 – Thursday, July 25, 2024
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Focus: 6th-8th grade Middle School students.
Camp #2
Monday, July 29 – Thursday, August 1, 2024
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Focus: 6th-8th grade Middle School students.
Be sure to apply early, there is a limited number of campers being accepted for each camp. Applicants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. New applicants will take priority over previous camp participants.
All applications must be received by Friday, May 24, 2024.
Parents of students accepted to attend the 2024 Summer Camp program will be notified by or before Friday, June 7, 2024 on the county website.

Three camp seats will be reserved in each camp for referrals from North Carolina Juvenile Justice Court Counselors, JCPC program providers, Currituck County School Principals, and Currituck County School Resource Officers.
